If you’re anything like the parents who work at Mini First Aid, your life is probably pretty hectic right now! As we always say at Mini First Aid, looking after number one is absolutely crucial – but how do we find time? So we got to thinking - when we do get that teeny tiny window of time to ourselves, how can we make the most of it? How can we get back on top of things, and basically sort out our lives?!

Over to the lovely Kelly Pietrangeli, creator of Project Me, helping busy mothers to step out of auto-pilot! Kelly guides you through how to tackle the never-ending to-do list and take back control – something we all need at the moment!

Create Your Own ‘New Normal’

After months of being cocooned in our homes and neighbourhoods, our newfound freedom brings with it old feelings of running late, rushing around, pangs of anxiety, overwhelm and wishing life would slow down again.

As a mindset mentor for mothers, and author of the book Project Me for Busy Mothers: A Practical Guide to Finding a Happier Balance, I encourage women to look for the gifts contained in 2020 so they can make better choices about what they want their ‘new normal’ to look and feel like.

Here’s how to step out of auto-pilot living and create your own ‘new normal’.

Have a monthly ‘Date With Me’

How often do you sit down with pen and paper and do a little assessment of the different areas of your life to see what needs some planning or figuring out? Maybe you need a strategy for organising your home, getting into a fitness routine, having more fun with your partner or friends, or doing more things just for you? Family life may flow easier if you spend a little time creating some written rules or charts so you can stop the nagging. Perhaps you have a business idea swirling around in your head, but you never take the time to explore it properly?

When you’re constantly caught up in the day to day whirlwind of life, you fall into bed every night without any chance for reflection, dreaming, or planning. Then the next morning you start the whole crazy routine all over again!

This is where an essential monthly ‘Date With Me’ comes in. It'll keep you in touch with your life on a much deeper level. You’ll be able to see what’s working - and give yourself credit for that (we too often focus on what’s not ‘good enough’.) You’ll also be able to identify any areas which could use some extra focus so you can be proactive and take some inspired actions to improve things.

Getting things out of your head and onto paper frees up a lot of mental bandwidth. You’ll be much more present in your daily life once you’ve had your dedicated ‘figure-it-out time’. Schedule your monthly date into your calendar as if it’s an important appointment you can’t miss. Because it is. Your non-negotiable ‘Date With Me’ is the key to living your life intentionally, not reactionary.

Master your to-do list and design your day wIth intention

Do you dive into each day without a game plan? Are you easily sidetracked? Do you procrastinate on the important (but boring) stuff, then kick yourself when the day’s over and you still didn’t manage to get it done?

If you’re still keeping your to-do list on random Post-Its, notes on your phone, scribbles on backs of envelopes or (worst of all) in your head, it’s time to create one Master To-Do List:

  • have a huge brain dump of anything and everything and put it into sections (personal, family, work, home projects, etc.) Identify any tasks or projects that have a specific deadline.
  • each and every morning, design your fresh day ahead with heart-felt intention. Take a fresh clean page and, drawing from your Master To-Do List, identify your three MITs (Most Important Tasks).
  • after identifying your three MITs, add anything else you’d love to do - if there’s time.

Here is your guiding mantra: I can do anything, but not everything

When you stop believing you can even possibly complete your entire to-do list in one day, you’ll go easier on yourself. Allow yourself to feel proud and accomplished for getting those 3 MITs done.

Soon you’ll have a better handle on the logistics of your external world and a space will magically open up for you to explore your inner world. You’ll discover what raises your vibes and brings you the most joy. You’ll turn the uncertainties of life into beautiful opportunities.
